From April 30 to June 30, the Institute of Mathematics at the Julius-Maximilian University of Würzburg will host the
Remember Maryam Mirzakhani exhibition
on the ground floor of the Biblioteks- und Seminarzentrum, Josef-Martin-Weg 64, in celebration of the International Day of Women in Mathematics.
Created by the Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM), this inspiring exhibition honors the life and work of Maryam Mirzakhani while highlighting the contributions of women in mathematics around the world. It emphasizes that mathematics is beyond geography, nationality, and gender—it belongs to everyone.
Maryam Mirzakhani (1977–2017) was an Iranian mathematician and professor at Stanford University. Her groundbreaking work on Riemann surfaces and moduli spaces earned her the Fields Medal in 2014—the first woman to receive this highest honor in mathematics.
She once said:
“The beauty of mathematics only shows itself to more patient followers.”
We are listed on the official website of the CWM as the hosting institute of the exhibition: https://www.mathunion.org/cwm/cwm-initiatives/remember-maryam-mirzakhani
